Your favorite place to relax maybe on a sandy beach, or off in a mountain retreat.

The location is different for everyone, however, the feeling we all crave is the same… that sweet feeling of peace.

While having lunch with a dear friend, she opened up and spoke of the stress and anxiety she had been feeling as she feared for the welfare of her grandchildren.  They were being raised in a home-life surrounded by drugs and toxic relationships. Tears began to well-up in her eyes from the exploding feelings of worry for their mental and physical safety.

As I sat quietly listening, wanting to desperately reassure her that all would be alright; she paused her conversation and began swiftly moved her hand in a vertical, up and down, zig-zag direction.  Then she asked the question; “Have you ever noticed how we go from the high of highs in life to the low of lows and then back up to the highs only to drop down to the lows?”

She paused again for a moment, as she redirected her hand in a flat, horizontal direction, right across the table top, and then asked,

Why don’t we ever just stay in the middle? I so want a peaceful life.”

“Why can’t we live in the middle?”

At that moment,

as I listened to her and saw the movement of her hand, an image poured into my mind.  The image one sees on a heart monitor as it registers the of the beats of a heart. That was the same motion, the same rhythm, one that we all want to see because of its indication of life.

In my mind came the words, “flat-line”, loud and clear.  A message so strong that I couldn’t help but blurt out the words…”Flat-line !“.  And in that moment came the realization that “If we were to really be in that desparately sought after, peaceful place of balance with no ups or downs; our heart would have to stop rendering us dead.”  A life completely absent from challenges, as much as we seek after it, does not exist in this mortality.  Once again I gained another confirmation that the only thing I have total control over is my Choice of Attitude, and the effort I give to my health and emotional wellbeing.

Feeling life’s load is too heavy and burn-out is beginning to step in? Try several of these 6 tips.

Each of us are individually different in our likes and dis-likes; but typically we all have one universal commonality and that is music. . Music is literally everywhere. I remember watching a Youtube video of crickets in slow-mo. This video gave me a whole new perspective on the sound I once characterized as being annoying; and an appreciation that there must be a reason that even crickets are designed to create music..

Carol Burnett once said, “Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me.”

Over the years I have learned and practiced some helpful, health tips that have literally changed my life.

1.  De-toxing my thoughts dailyYes, You heard me… Very Important!

This practice of clearing out negative perceptions and thoughts on a daily basis has helped me gain a new perspective, as well as given me the strength to stay positive and calm in stressful situations.

*Today’s Challenge:

Recognize what path your thoughts are taking. Go as far as to write them down so that you can keep a record of different words that pass through your mind.  Evaluate your words.  Do you find that most of the words you use have a negative origin or meaning?  Are your attempting to accomplish something good by telling yourself “not” to do something else?  Take those negative statements of “I won’t”, “I can’t”, “i’m not” and replace them with words that have a positive context.  For example,  “I will”…..,  “I am”….., “I can”……  Words, like musical notes, have a vibration, a frequency; and attitude that can be felt.  And when we speak, we are aligning our mind and heart up with the feeling of those words

Choose words of faith and strong intent.  Give your best effort and then turn to God to make it amazingly wonderful.  Let your thoughts be centered and focused more on what He can do with your efforts then the inadequacies that you are feeling.

2. I give my body Good nutrients through whole foods

For our health to stay strong physically, emotionally, and mentally, we have to feed it good nutrients.  I come from a long line of passionate, goal accomplishing, people who struggle with different levels of OCD and perfectionism.  My self, and sweet family have learned to manage is a sensitivity to anxiety.  I have taught my children the same techniques that have worked successfully for my clients as far as controlling fear to accomplish their goal and dream.  Along with the ability to design our thoughts in a positive direction, we have come to realize the importance of eating for health.  Every morning I start with a fresh lemon drink to flush my system, followed by a big glass of water and vitamins.  Stress can weaken the immune system, so we have relied on this drink daily to help support our nervous system, as well as Emergen-C, a power packed formula that provides key nutrients for your body. I look for products that are high in Vitamin C, Zinc and  magnesium.

3.  Sleep

When I hear people proudly state that they can exsit on 4 or less hours of sleep, I stop and ask myself, “is this a left-over reaction from the rebelious teen-age stage?”  Not only are there countless studies now showing that we need a good 7 to 8 hours of sleep to strengthen our body’s ability to handle stress easy peasy, but now we have CEO’s, such as Marissa Mayer, who’s ill mis-haps are exploited through the head lines of our news.

I recently read that there are few things which are worse for my health than long-term sleep deprivation.  Cutting ones hours of sleep and running of fumes put us at a higher risk of quite a number of conditions including heart disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and depression. If you are having troubles remembering things, check your sleep habits.  Because a lack of sleep creates a deleterious effect onf the brain, mostly on our memory and cognition.  So amp up on the sleep.  And if you have troubles going to sleep, you might take a good look at your intake of vitamins and minerals.  I find that when I take calm during the day time, I am able to sleep much better at night.  If you are really having a hard time at night, I have been told that this Calm Sleep Support works.I have one more tip that I have given to my clients, as well as myself during those months that I would wake up feeling anxious after our daughters death.  I would take my hand and cup it over my right eye while it was opened as I lay there awake.  And before I knew it, it was morning time and I didn’t remember falling asleep.  The concept behind this simple technique is that when the right eye is covered, typically it singles to the left brain that there is no information coming in.  We all know that one of the jobs of the left side of our brain is to focus on details, and when our thoughts stay stuck, so to speak, in this type of thought process….we can become overly anxious.  So do yourself a favor and get more sleep.  Lookiing good and filled with energy and vitality is really an “inside” job.

4. Power Up with Vitamins and Minerals

Magnesium, Can a LACK of…. cause Anxiety?

Magnesium deficiency can be caused by Stress.  And with a deficiency of Magnesium the stress reaction of “Fight or Flight” is magnified.

What foods are high in Magnesium?

Here are a few of the foods that are high in Magnesium.  Some of the foods that are considered Bthe highest are

  • Beans and Nuts
  • Whole grains
  • Green leafy vegetables

Bananas may be better known for being rich in heart-healthy and bone-strengthening potassium, but a medium-size bananas also provides 32 mg of magnesium, along with vitamin C and fiber.

What are the benefits of Magnesium to the human body?

Magnesium helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function, keeps heart rhythm steady, supports a healthy immune system, and keeps bones strong.  Magnesium also helps regulate blood sugar levels, promotes normal blood pressure, and is known to be involved in energy metabolism and protein synthesis.  Magnesium is also known for helping the body to lose water and stool weight, but it will not burn fat.   Magnesium has been shown in numerous studies to reduce insulin resistance.  Insulin resistance is what leads to weight gain, fatigue and other health complications.

 Super Hero Zinc

Zinc is found in cells throughout the body. It is needed for the body’s defensive (immune) system to properly work. It plays a role in cell division, cell growth, wound healing, and the breakdown of carbohydrates.  Zinc is also needed for the senses of smell and taste.

Feel More Sparkle with Vitamin C

As far as stress is concerned, Vitamin C allows the body to quickly clear out cortisol, a primary stress hormone that increases sugars in the bloodstream. …Vitamin C helps to regulate cortisol and prevent blood pressure from spiking in response to stressful situations.

I have only touched on a few essential nutrients  in this article.  There are so many more. Each nutrient is very important to the balance and stabilizing of functions in our body, to our mood, and well-being.

5. SMILE MORE

I find that smiling is the one, simple exercise that just automatically raises my mood and spirit.

An article written by Joseph Stromberg, in the Smithsonian Magazine said,

“What does this mean for your daily life? When feeling stressed, try forcing a smile on your face. If you can manage a genuine, Duchenne smile—what people often refer to as “smiling with your eyes,” not just your mouth—that’s even better. For whatever reason, forcing yourself to look happier could actually end up helping you feel happier.”

So pull out your best smile the next time you are dealing with a stressful situation.

When our body is feeling healthy, and our mind is on a good course, our attitude is in check, and we feel a resilience, and a resistance to the waves of negativity in life.

6. Acts of Kindness

Doing Something Nice for Someone, will usually pull us out of a slump of exhaustion.  This tip is the hardest to do when we are typically feeling low of energy and over worked, but the automatic payoff is the fuel that puts enthusiasm right back into our mental motor.  You do not have to do anything elaborate or costly. Something as simple as a few kind words given to someone else, act as a boom-a-rang, feeding the positive input right back into our own psychi.

SoToday….. Take Action, Start Simple.  Your plan does not need to be complicated, YOU just need to start.
